This programme is for experienced dancers and teachers who are complete beginners with the Graham/Horton Technique. Therefore, they participate in a preparation programme for teacher training to become eligible to apply for our teacher training later.
>> If you are familiar with the technique, this programme is NOT for you.
This training is designed for someone experienced in the codified Graham/Horton technique who currently has an advanced beginner to intermediate level of proficiency. You are familiar with the method and have practised for several months or years through professional training or intensive open-class programmes. We train you for 6 months, spread across 24 weeks, and provide you with a comprehensive training schedule that covers the method from its fundamentals to intermediate and advanced movements. Depending on your level and capabilities, you can become certified from level 3 to 5. As mentioned on our website, here are the differences between levels:
Differences between the levels
Level 3 corresponds to teaching the Fundamentals, Beginner and Advanced Beginner levels.
Level 4 covers Fundamentals, Beginner to Intermediate levels.
Level 5 covers Fundamentals, Beginner to Intermediate/Advanced Levels. It includes syllabi and studies for professional level.
Level 1 and 2 are included in all the Certification, these are the fundamentals studied in your first module.
Therefore, a student joining Certificate 3-5 can become certified to any level, depending on their technique and capabilities, which will be evaluated upon application, first, and then during the ongoing teacher training assessment of their preparation. For instance, you could be offered a Certification at level 3 at registration and end up with level 4 because you did well. You could also be offered level 4 and become eligible for 5.
We have never downgraded a student so far; usually, we are accurate and upgrade whenever it is achievable. A student can also obtain a level 4 now and rejoin MIU later for level 5, benefiting from deductions.
>> For instance, if you know the technique well but are unfamiliar with the terminology and studies, this programme is for you.
This programme is for experienced students who are familiar with the codified Graham/Horton Technique and join MIU at the intermediate and advanced levels at registration. They have mastered the fundamentals and confidently know the terminology and studies. Turns Around The Back on the knees, Back Leg Extension, 3 Witches, Sitting Falls or Pretzel for Graham. Academic Flat Back series, Fortifications 1 to 6, Preludes 1 and 3, Release Swings, Percussive Stroke Study for Horton. These are examples of movements that students applying for this programme should be familiar with.
They are very comfortable with many intermediate and advanced movements from the traditional syllabi and need to join MIU to validate their experience. They are usually also experienced teachers who need to complete their training more quickly due to professional commitments.
The duration of this intense teacher training is 8-10 weeks, and participants automatically gain Certification at level 5.
>> If you are advanced in Graham/Horton, this programme is for you.
>> Note: An advanced candidate wishing to train at a slower pace could join Certificate 3-5 and still be certified at level 5. A student being offered a spot at Level 5 is always welcome to join a longer training, as we want our students to be comfortable. Sometimes, taking more time is necessary for those who also need to refresh their understanding of the fundamentals.

The MIU Teacher Training structure
As stated on our website, the teacher training fee is added during registration to complete your annual tuition. For example, for our most popular programme, Certificate 3-5, registration will be outlined as follows:
The tuition fee is payable in two steps:
$999 to join MIU and create your 12-month membership
In addition, the teacher training fee ranges from £200 to £450, depending on students' time zones. Please note that the teacher training fee will be paid on our UK-based website and is quoted in pounds.
New: You can enrol in the Graham and Horton Teacher Training programme simultaneously at registration and become certified in one year. You will save over $200 when you sign up.
Our team will calculate the final investment costs and email them to you once you have successfully applied. Find more information about our fees here: Investment Fees
You can pay this total upfront for peace of mind or spread the cost over 12 months with a reduced teacher training fee to help you manage your budget ($115/month for 12 months plus £200 to £300 depending on your timezone; this payment plan includes admin costs).
Either programme will include the MIU membership for one year, which is included in your tuition costs. These are ONE-OFF payments; you do not need to pay them every year to remain certified. You pay it just once.
