FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQs

1. I haven't studied the Graham and Horton Techniques before, is this programme for me?

Absolutely! Chances are, you haven't taken action in your Horton or Graham teaching due to a lack of time, confidence, or guidance. These reasons can't hinder your growth; that's why we are here for you! Inside M Intensive University, we cover topics designed to help you get unstuck and take intentional, confident actions toward building an inspirational class.

2. Is there an age limit to join the Certification Programme?

No. You can join at any age as long as you are fit to teach and complete our Graham or Horton teacher training. Our members range from 13 to 73 years old; our MIU graduates currently teaching Horton or Graham are typically in their 20s to early 60s.

3. Which video should I submit for my application?

Please submit your video according to our application process and guidelines. Find all the information you need here.

4. How can MIU assist me in selecting between the different programmes?

We encourage experienced dancers and teachers who are unsure about which programme to apply for to contact us directly at info@m-intensive.co.uk to discuss the best training options available to them.

5. Can I join MIU and the online teacher training in my time zone?

Our online platform is accessible 24/7 from anywhere with a good internet connection.

M Intensive University is UK-based; therefore, our live teacher training sessions are referred to in GMT. Our students and graduates are from the UK, Italy, Canada, Barbados, Sweden, India, Denmark, Vietnam, the US, France, Brazil, Ukraine, Jerusalem, Nigeria, Germany, Belize, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, Romania, Tunisia, Palestine, Mexico, Peru, Switzerland, Spain, Russia and more.

We can cover most time zones; we always encourage you to email us at info@m-intensive.co.uk to ensure we cover your area.

6. Can I enroll in the Teacher Certification Programme in Graham and Horton simultaneously?

You cannot pursue both certifications simultaneously; however, you can apply for the 48-week course and be certified in both styles during this period. At M Intensive University, we prioritise quality over quantity. Therefore, we encourage you to focus on each training technique individually to understand each method thoroughly. You will receive dedicated teacher training for both styles separately over 48 weeks.

We offer discounts for participants who enrol in both certification programmes. You can become certified in both techniques within 48 weeks. As an MIU member, you will have membership benefits for 24 months, and we also provide financial assistance for the tuition of the second programme.

These dances are connected in many ways; learning one will always benefit the other, and you will quickly adapt to each style.

7. Are there any Scholarships available? I need support from a third party, how can you help?

Prospective students demonstrating solid understanding of Graham/Horton methods can win a Mary M Fish Scholarship and study at MIU with full sponsorship. Learn more here.

We offer financial assistance to students who demonstrate the potential for teaching the Graham and Horton Techniques. These deductions will be applied to tuition costs, helping to reduce the final expenses associated with the teacher training programme. Each eligibility case will be considered individually, and financial support is primarily intended for those who need it.

You might request estimates, quotes, or additional documentation to obtain financial help from a third party. We can provide such documents.

Contact us at info@m-intensiove.co.uk for any inquiries related to finances.

8. When does the course start?

MIU is open all year long, and live Classes are ON from September to the last week of July. The platform is still fully operating in August for you to enjoy as you please.
Courses are ongoing monthly, and you can start at any time convenient for you. For the Certification Programme, you should join M Intensive University three/four weeks before the date you wish to begin your teacher training. Teacher Training dates.

We’ve designed our courses so you can follow the suggested schedule, attend live classes, or work at your own pace. Enquire here.

9. How much space do I need to take my teacher training?

Our lessons are ideal for limited spaces. Therefore, you do not need to book a studio to attend our long-distance training at MIU, and you can take your classes from the comfort of your own home. Nevertheless, it is preferable that your space allows your instructors to see your whole body, if possible, and that you can move within it without obstacles.

10. What types of videos are included in my membership?

Your membership at MIU includes access to online classes, tutorials, live recordings, and replays of Horton and Graham Techniques. You'll also have access to replays of guest teachers invited since MIU was founded, which is highly appreciated by our members!

At M Intensive University, you can't miss anything :) Additionally, we have included a HIIT Training section on demand because dance professionals like to stay fit all year.

11. How do the weekly group coaching/class sessions work?

Each group coaching/class session on Zoom is 20 to 75 minutes long. Session times are decided on a term basis.

12. What if I can't make a class session live?

All classes are recorded and uploaded into your dashboard, so you never miss them.

13. How will progress assessments be done?

Students participate in punctual assessments over their training, submit written assignments and videos of themselves practising or teaching, which we evaluate and provide feedback on.

What’s special about the M Intensive University Certification Programme is our emphasis on teaching practice through our 100% live training, allowing you to gain experience, develop, and grow into a confident Graham and/or Horton instructor.

14. Is the weekly Teachers' Certificate classes on a set day/time?

We will do our best to accommodate our students with a session that works for them. Once we find a suitable day, we will adhere to it for a term and adjust for the next one if needed. If you have a last-minute performance or teaching job, we will replay the lesson punctually to ensure you stay up to date. These sessions are mandatory for successful teacher training; attending them is essential to access your final examination.

15. If I complete Visionary 3, will I qualify for the teacher training programme? What are the requirements?

You will be eligible upon assessment, as mentioned on our website.

You will be enrolled in the Visionary 3 plan for 6 to 12 months. You should send videos of your homework as you work with our online resources regularly - up to one video per week and not longer than 15 minutes. You will receive private feedback on your work and tasks to complete each time you send a video.

After six months, you will be assessed on demand. We will notify you if you are already eligible for the teacher training. If you still need to work on a few things, you will remain on the Visionary 3 plan for another six months.

16. Will I have access to educators and feedback if I sign up for Visionary 3 in the summer? How will the students' experience be?

The teachers are on summer break, usually from August 4 to the 31st. MIU students can continue learning as normal since the platform remains open 24/7. Our 400+ online Graham and Horton courses will keep you well occupied :)

In August, you will submit your homework twice during the month instead of weekly, and it will be reviewed with private feedback delivered directly to you by our ongoing supervision team.

It will be a fairly typical month, without live lessons. You also have the option to continue learning but submit your homework in September once you have fully grasped the material, benefiting from the additional time you have received.

17. What is the certification level that comes after completing the Visionary 3 Programme?

Students who are new to the Visionary 3 programme are eligible for a Level 3 Certification. Level 4 is considered after the assessment in teacher training.

18. How long does the Teacher Training Certificate 3 to 5 last?

24 weeks over six months. You will have one live session a week lasting between 1 and 1.5 hours with your instructor, plus some homework assigned between sessions.

Occasionally, if your instructor sees fit, we can schedule two sessions to accommodate your teacher training needs. We will always inform you and discuss any changes with you in advance. We prioritise communication to ensure you can manage your training and work commitments.

19. What are the differences between the levels?

Level 3 corresponds to teaching the Beginner and Advanced Beginner levels.

Level 4 covers Beginner to Intermediate levels.

Level 5 covers Beginner to Intermediate/Advanced Levels and includes elements of professional movements in studies and syllabi.

20. Is my Certification guaranteed after payment?

You do not buy your Graham or Horton Teacher Certificate at M Intensive University; you earn it through your dedicated work. After completing our training, you need to succeed on your final examination. To take your final exam, you must be a member of MIU and complete our online teacher training.

You cannot be certified if you cancel your subscription before the final examination (if you are on a monthly plan), do not complete your short essay, or don't attend the live classes scheduled with your instructor. These are crucial for your exam, and we will do everything we can to help you succeed.

21. Will the Certificate have mention that the course was done Online?

There will be NO such mention of the course being done online because it is irrelevant.
The excellent teacher training we provide at MIU is practical and equal, whether online or in person. Our soon-to-be Horton or Graham teachers are selected carefully and embody the qualities required to authentically share these modern dance techniques.

22. Will I be qualified to teach in my country?

You will be qualified to teach anywhere.

Upon graduation, students receive all necessary documents to validate the completion of their teacher training.

Nevertheless, M Intensive University cannot represent specific countries and institutions requiring their dance teachers to adhere to additional local legislation regarding teaching dance.

If needed, you should obtain complementary qualifications in the country where you are based or the institutions you are collaborating with.

M Intensive University is an international online Graham & Horton School and Continuing Education Provider, registered under number 12564799 in England and Wales, and a global institution registered with the International Dance Council CID, with registration number 41157.

23. Will I need to go through training every year?

No, unless you want to obtain another certification or enhance the quality of your teaching skills.

24. Is the membership fee recurring yearly after being Certified?

No. You remain an MIU Member voluntarily at the MIU's teacher rate if you wish to use our online resources to keep growing.

25. What to do After Getting Horton and/or Graham Certified?

Certification is not an end in itself; it is a driver of career development.

It would be a significant mistake for any professional to bask in the euphoria of getting certified and neglect ongoing requirements. Once you achieve the certification, you must establish new goals. At each stage in your career, you should ask yourself: Where am I? Where do I want to be? How do I get there? If you remain stagnant, your technical skills will stagnate.

To stay ahead, you must continue learning and regularly take Graham and Horton classes. If you don't continuously develop yourself, the value of your certification diminishes.

26. Can I enrol again after graduation to increase the level of my qualifications?

Absolutely. You should actively use your Certification for 6 to 12 months and reapply for a higher level as soon as possible, taking advantage of financial aid at registration to help you attain this new level.

27. How long is my MIU membership for?

You remain an MIU Member for as long as you need. You can enrol in M Intensive University by paying monthly or annually.
MIU will stay by your side as long as necessary and guide you along the way.

28. Is it easy to change plans?

It sure is. You can upgrade, downgrade or switch from monthly to annual billing at any time.

29. Can I have a refund?

We do not offer a refund policy, including the yearly membership. However, if you make monthly instalments, you can unsubscribe anytime. There are no cancellation fees and no questions asked.
Admin fees for the Certificate Programme are not refundable. You are automatically ineligible for the examination session and cannot be certified if you unsubscribe or don't complete the online teacher training within the agreed period of your course.

We do not offer tuition and administration fees refunds for not attending or dropping out of a Private or Teacher Training course, including the Contraction, Fortification, Modern Dance Programme, and the Horton/Graham Certification Programmes.

For further information, please read our terms and conditions.
