Varsha Bansal is a performing artist, choreographer, certified GYROTONIC© instructor, and Graham Technique Specialist based in India. She's also the founder of Seed to Soul Wellness, an institution providing strength, agility and flexibility training using the GYROTONIC© method.
Graduated from the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York City, Varsha recently spent two years studying the Graham technique and repertory with first-class Graham teachers, including former and current Martha Graham Dance Company members. Immersing in the physicality and theatricality that were at the core of Graham's work, Varsha had the privilege of performing Martha Graham's repertoires that included, but were not limited to, Lamentation (1930), Satyric Festival Song (1932), Clytemnestra (1958), Appalachian Spring (1944), Maple Leaf Rag (1990), Seraphic Dialogue (1955) and Night Chant (1988). Varsha also successfully showcased her compositional work during the summer and winter showings at the Martha Graham Studio Theaters.
Varsha is a versatile dance artist and teacher who regularly challenges herself to enhance her dance skills and knowledge. In addition to Martha Graham School, she participated in various prestigious US companies' intensives, masterclasses, and workshops, such as Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company in NYC, and Pas Dance Movement Centre in Seoul, South Korea. Varsha particularly values the rehearsal space, which always has been a place of freedom of expression and growth in her professional career. Her skills and talent opened the doors to many opportunities; She learned various contemporary repertoire pieces with world-renowned choreographers such as Jacqulyn Buglisi, Bobbi Jene Smith, Danielle Agami, Alice Klock, Alison Cook Beatty, Caterina Rago, Yoshito Sakuraba, Omar Roman De Jesus, and Gabrielle Lamb, among others.
She is also a freelance artist who performed with diverse choreographers in the US and India. Varsha loves movement and constantly explores and creates new ways to express herself throughout her choreographies. Dance and humanity are highly connected in her language, nourished by her versatile career and rich experience as a dancer and human being.
Varsha is a resident artist at Maah Space Studio in Jaipur. Inspired by the Japanese word Ma (pronounced maah), Maah envisions the pure and essential void between all things. Like the negative space in a picture, Maah is a working space for creativity and exploration. It invites people to find time for the 'self' again.
She is working closely in collaboration with theatre director Mumal Thakur on a piece revolving around the issue of identity crisis in the world.
Her vision and international experience make her Graham technique class loved and vibrant!
