THE MIU AFFILIATE PROGRAMME

Be part of the Graham and Horton movement revolutionising dance teaching.

The MIU Affiliate Programme represents The M Intensive University School’s inspiring and revolutionary approach to training and assessing private and recreational dance teachers. Designed to be delivered within their own schools, it offers young dance students a transformative, holistic learning experience. This innovative syllabus-based model empowers teachers to inspire, guide, and support a diverse range of students, fostering a love for learning and encouraging them to find joy and purpose in every step of their dance journey.

To become an official MIU affiliate, you should be an MIU Registered Horton or Graham Teacher. Marquita D. J. and Audrey L., our dedicated graduates, exemplify the excellence of instruction cultivated at M Intensive University and inspire their students to reach similar heights.

How to apply

Application procedure

Your Continuous MIU Affiliate Programme assessment

MIU-registered Graham/Horton teachers can apply as soon as they have completed our online teacher training. Their MIU teacher training, final examination and essay are validated as the first step towards the Affiliate Programme application. You will need to provide the following documentation to complete your application as part of your continuous assessment.

Applicants should prepare a 6-step professional written presentation and a video statement, explaining in complete transparency:

  1. The age group of their students, whether the delivery of Graham/Horton lessons will be for recreational or vocational purposes, and how it will support their growth in a hobby and, if applicable, on a professional basis.

  2. The impact of the MIU affiliation on their community and on learning outcomes should be clearly stated, along with a long-term vision for how this affiliation can benefit their community and their own teaching practice.

  3. Include your current teaching experience as a contemporary/modern teacher in a vocational or recreational setting.

  4. Applicants will submit two written documents: Horton or Graham lesson plans, each accompanied by a relevant reflection and evaluation of teaching and learning in the class, demonstrating a clear understanding of the outcomes. One lesson plan should be designed for beginner students aged 12+, and the other for Int/Adv students aged 15+. If you graduated from both teacher training programmes, you may submit one lesson plan for Graham and one for Horton at the levels described above.

  5. Present yourself and your project in a self-taped video describing how your current teaching aligns with the MIU Horton/Graham approach. Explain why you want to become an MIU Affiliate teacher and the context in which you plan to use this affiliation, whether in your own school, employment, or as a guest instructor. Reflect on your training journey at MIU from the dance student's perspective and on how its key elements will benefit your students. To conclude, explain how you perceive your role and responsibilities within the Graham/Horton lineage at your current location. The video shouldn't be longer than 5 minutes.

  6. A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or equivalent in your home country will be added to your application.
