Sierra Christine Sanders is a dancer and a Graham Technique Teacher based in NYC and born in Montclair, New Jersey. She has studied Modern and West African dance at Karen Love's USAAMA, a pre-professional company. As a New Jersey Performing Arts Center's Youth Artists Institute graduate, Sierra later received her B.F.A in Dance from Montclair State University. Under Earl Mosley's Institute of the Arts Intensives, Sierra studied various dance styles, including contemporary, modern, and classical ballet.
Upon graduation, she went on to dance professionally for Philadanco's 2nd company, D2. She later studied with world-renowned Graham Technique instructors such as Lone Larson, Virginie Mécène, Denise Vale, Elizabeth Auclair, and Peggy Lyman-Hayes for several years at the prestigious Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York City under full scholarship as a member of Graham 2. She performed the most emblematic ballet in Graham's repertoire. She then graduated in June 2020 from the Teacher's Certificate Program at the Martha Graham School.
Sierra continues to teach the Graham Technique at Ballet Tech Public School for Dance, The Martha Graham School, Ailey Extension, DanceWave, and Fairleigh Dickinson University as the first adjunct professor in Modern dance in the school's history. She currently dances professionally for Buglisi Dance Theatre, Dzul Dance, and Christopher Rudd's RudduR Dance company in New York City.
Sierra Christine Sanders's class is unique and focused on the Graham Technique's movements and artistry by emphasizing the animalistic spirit within ourselves to find complete freedom of expression. We are delighted to welcome Sierra to MIU again, and we cannot wait to share her gift with our community.
