Sarah Sulemanji is a British dancer, movement practitioner and lecturer based in the United Kingdom. Sarah is the founder and director of Our Moving Stories CIC, a community organisation in Southall exploring the potential of dance, movement and arts practice. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Dance Performance, an MA in Professional Practice, and a PGCHE.
Sarah fell in love with Graham after studying with Kim Jones, a former dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company who encouraged her to pursue her dream of studying in NYC. She has studied the Graham work with world-acclaimed teachers and performers who collaborated with Martha Graham, including Linda Hodes, Penny Frank, Virginie Mécène, Lone K. Larsen, Peggy Lyman-Hayes and Marianne Bachmann.
Sarah understudied Chronicle (1936) with Graham 2 and studied repertory, including Diversion of Angels (1948), Night Journey (1947), and Acts of Light (1981). She is a former practice-based Lecturer in Dance Technique at Middlesex University, where she taught Graham technique for over a decade.
Sarah has the privilege to work closely with Anne Donnelly, restaging works by the world-renowned Graham Dancer and Choreographer Robert Cohan in the UK.
As well as training professionals, she relishes the opportunity to work with people in a diverse range of contexts, particularly those who would not usually have the opportunity to experience dance. Sarah collaborates with Graham For Europe and has acted as a UK coordinator since 2021.
Her deep embodied understanding of this legacy and her rigorous training in NYC, as well as her ongoing exploration of the Graham work, are what make her class unique. Sarah has acquired a solid knowledge of the dance style, making her an invaluable Graham Technique Teacher in the UK.
