Masterclasses Levels Description

JOIN OUR LIVE RECORDINGS

As part of our commitment to inclusivity and exploration, we are pleased to offer a CPD course that includes an All-Level series of Masterclasses. Our program is designed to be progressive, spanning six days, and provides opportunities for participants of all levels to learn about the techniques that shaped Graham and Horton dances. Our team of facilitators will follow a continuous scheme of work to deliver balanced and evolving lesson plans throughout the week. Participants will engage in intense dancing sessions and movement studies, allowing those with a broader scope of capabilities to learn new teaching ideas and push themselves in rigorous dance lessons. Our focus is on movement study at a slow pace, ensuring that each Horton and Graham lesson has a particular movement study topic planned. This method will help participants learn and grow various teaching tools and approaches in a practice-based environment.

Please see the comprehensive description of the different levels below.

ALL LEVEL classes are suitable for both new and experienced dancers. The courses cover Horton, Graham, and other movement-based techniques. The classes are aimed at improving your foundation and technique.

ALL LEVEL 1 classes are tailored to help participants develop a strong foundation in the Graham and Horton techniques from a beginner's teaching practice perspective. These classes enable students to focus on solidifying the basics of the method and syllabus at a slow pace on their first day.

ALL LEVEL 2 lessons take students to an advanced beginner level of the Horton and Graham essential movements, exploring them further through an evolutive dance practice.

ALL LEVEL 3 dance classes progress at a faster pace and emphasize rhythm, style, and self-expression, resulting in more intricate choreography. These classes suit dancers with prior experience and understanding of dance terminology, technique, rhythm, and style. Level 3 classes are perfect for those who have mastered the fundamentals of dance and want to push themselves to the next level.

ALL LEVEL 4 is designed to show our participants how traditional movement studies can evolve into more intermediate and advanced exercises. During this level, students will perform longer choreography and be expected to learn faster. These masterclasses will also give our participants progressive teaching approaches and tips to implement in their educational practice.

ALL LEVEL 5/6 Participants in these classes will be prepared for our Repertory Choreography Study. The classes will begin with a brief traditional Graham and Horton warm-up, which will help students develop the necessary movement skills required for the repertory study. These exciting lessons will also give teachers an overview of how the presented modern dance repertory can inspire them in their personal use of the methods in a class setting. Students are expected to develop an artistic approach to the styles, with the performance being the ultimate goal of the workshop and the result of a successful week of work and discovery.
