We are honoured to welcome Marzia Memoli from Palermo, Italy. She is a Martha Graham Company dancer who graduated with high honours from the Academy of Teatro Carcano in Milan. Memoli also attended the prestigious Béjart School under Michel Gascard's direction.

Artistic Director Gil Roman invited her to perform in The Ninth Symphony (1964) and Le Sacre du Printemps (1959) with the Bejart Ballet Lausanne.

In 2016, she joined the Martha Graham Dance Company. Her repertoire with the Company includes some of the most prominent pieces, such as Graham’Graham'ste of Spring (1984) as the Chosen One, El Penitente (1940), Chronicle (1936), The Princess in Cave of the Heart (1946), Satyric Festival Song (1932), Diversion of Angels (1948), Dark Meadow Suite (1946), Acts of Light (1981), and Deep Song (1937).

She has also performed works by world-renowned contemporary choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter, Elisa Monte, Bobbi Jean Smith, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Maxine Doyle, Pam Tanowitz, Sonya Tayeh, Pontus Lidberg, Micaela Taylor, Lar Lubovitch, Andrea Miller, and Jamar Roberts. In 2022, she performed for Twyla Tharp in In the Upper Room (1986) and Nine Sinatra Songs (1982) at the New York City Center.

Memoli is a recent recipient of the Fini International Rising Star Award.

Her vibrant interpretation of Martha Graham's works as a dancer and teacher has been truly inspiring and has brought a fresh perspective to her legacy. Her innovative teaching technique, combined with her extensive international experience, is incredibly valuable. Over the past years, she has demonstrated to the dance community how Martha Graham's dance can simultaneously exude power and grace.

Dedicated to passing on her precious knowledge to the next generation of dancers, she carved out time in her busy schedule to join our Virtual Summer Intensive for two special days. During this time, we will engage in rigorous training, gaining insight into how she incorporates her experience dancing the Graham repertoire into her classwork and teaching practice.

We are thrilled to introduce Marzia to the MIU family and offer unique lessons you won't want to miss!
